Body cams are no longer only used by the police, but are also very popular in mass transit and with more and more private security companies. But how exactly can the small high-tech camera support security personnel in their daily work?
De-Escalation Of High-Conflict Situations
It is well known that body cams increase security in public spaces — including “perceived security”. They are mainly used preventively and are intended to have a de-escalating effect in conflict situations, so that troublemakers refrain from violent actions. To enhance the de-escalation effect, our body cam has a front display including a mirror function. The filmed person sees himself during the recording on the body cam display, which should have an additional deterrent effect.
Reliable Preservation Of Evidence
As much as we would like it, body cams unfortunately cannot prevent all assaults on security personnel. Often, security personnel have a hard time proving incidents so troublemakers face the consequences for their actions.
The body cam can help with evidence in many ways. For one thing, the camera has the same angle of view as the human eye and, with its 165° wide angle, films even smaller details of the event. On the other hand, the pre-recording function expands the evidence: Here, the events are already recorded two minutes before recording begins and automatically discarded if the material is not needed. In dicey situations, the pre-recording of the incident can be important and thus also secures recordings if a security guard cannot switch on the body cam quickly enough.
Due to the encrypted transmission of the recording material and the associated assurance that videos are protected from manipulation and access by third parties, body cam recordings can be used in court. Thus, body cam recordings are more valuable than any testimony recited from memory and support security personnel in bringing perpetrators to justice, because: the footage does not lie and reflects the real events of the situation.
This type of evidence collection can also have another positive effect in the long run: troublemakers whose videos have already been presented in court will not be so quick to make another misstep.
Emergency Button On The Body Cam
Some security employees work in a one-man shift depending on the situation. If an incident occurs and the security guard is injured, an emergency call can be made directly via the body cam. Such an emergency button — comparable to a domestic emergency call — can be attached to your body cam on request. The paramedics are informed of the exact location of the person seeking help and can respond quickly.
Of course, security personnel do not only work during the day. Especially at night, conflicts with, for example, heavily intoxicated persons become more frequent. Here, too, the body cam must provide reliable recordings. Our body cam therefore has a flashlight function that can be used to record filmed persons in a clearly recognizable way even in the dark.
This function can also be practical when guarding extensive areas at night, as paths are illuminated and personnel do not need an additional flashlight. The body cam can be conveniently attached to the vest or uniform and provides two free hands.
