Congress On Municipal Hazard Prevention: Body Cams Support Law Enforcement Services

On September 28, 2022, the Federal Congress of Municipal Order of the organizer Behörden Spiegel will take place in Dortmund with the main focus on “municipal danger prevention”. As a manufacturer of de-escalating body cams, NetCo will also be represented there with a booth and will provide information about the use of the cameras by law enforcement agencies, among others.

More Responsibility For Municipal Law Enforcement Officers

Internal security tasks — such as issuing expulsions or checking demonstrations — are increasingly being taken away from the police and taken over by the field staff of the public order offices. In the process, the task forces are repeatedly the victims of (violent) assaults. The Federal Congress of Municipal Order addresses this problem and creates an information and discussion platform, which NetCo gladly supports with its body cam know-how.

Body Cams Help Law Enforcement Agencies Avert Danger

Last year, the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia saw the need to amend the law on public order authorities due to increasing attacks on municipal public order officers. Since then, the public order services have been allowed to protect themselves with body cams just like the police officers and to use the image and video material after an assault to preserve evidence.

Since the beginning of the year, the city of Duisburg has therefore been investing in the safety of its field staff and has equipped them with the NetCo body cam. The field staff of the Citizens’ and Public Order Office report that there have been no (verbal or physical) assaults on the staff since then. In particular, the large and clearly visible front display of the NetCo Body Cam has a de-escalating effect in critical situations. This preventive effect of the camera ensures that troublemakers refrain from further actions and protects the emergency forces as well as uninvolved third parties.

The positive body cam experiences from Duisburg should also motivate other municipal law enforcement agencies to test the cameras. As the topic of body cams is still new on a municipal level, NetCo invites to the “Body Cam Conference” in Cologne for the second time on June 14th, 2023, and in this way provides a platform for the exchange of experiences and information.
